In Joshua 5 of the Bible, Israel consecrates (dedicates) herself to God before entering her permanent home in Canaan. This has a lot of significance in showing Israel that she has formally entered into a new season and that she is no longer living in barren wilderness. It tells the Christian, who is passing through this life, that what we do here on earth is not a waste of time: we’re passing through to our permanent new home in heaven, but are meant to be growing in new stages of growth and not merely keeping the status quo.
Here is my Joshua 5 Bible Study (in PDF). Feel free to use it. It includes the passage from the ESV, although there are some expressions that I have changed for the sake of maintaining consistency with the Hebrew that it was originally written in.
